A-Tisket, A-Tasket, a Little May Day Basket

We love May Day! A thoughtful May Day basket brings a smile to any friend's and neighbor's face. Here's ours for this year...

This sweet basket is cute and easy to make.

1. Cut scrapbook paper so that it measures 8 inches by 8 inches--a perfect square.

2. Fold it in half to make a triangle.

3. Fold the corner up to the outer edge.

4. Fold the other corner up to the other edge.

5. It should look like this.

6. Fold down the top triangular flaps.

7. Hole punch all the way through for your ribbon handle.

8. Cut a ribbon to about 8 or 9 inches for your handle and slip through your holes so that you can knot it a couple of times on the inside of the basket. The knots will keep your handle in place.

9. Select something fun to gift in your May Day basket. We chose soaps from Bittersweet Boutique this year. Jill's homemade soaps are our favorite, and she takes great care and joy in beautifully wrapping them. For our purposes, we chose a bundle of plain-wrapped mini soaps so that we could decorate them with ribbon or a band of scrapbook paper--just hot glue it around the soap. Gift options are so much fun to think of. We've done seed packets and small flowers if they are in bloom. We've also done candy, cookies, recipes, stories...just use your imagination!

10. Write a thoughtful poem to place in your basket. Here's what my daughter created:

May Day is here
Warm weather it will bring.
But in case is doesn't,
Jill's soap smells like spring!

11. Place the soap and card in your basket and get ready to make someone smile!

Have a happy May Day!
